That's the way, stupid me, just pushing in the grease won't force it out
(I'm in India right now so somewhat sleep deprived with the jet lag,
that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!). I filled mine with grease
and then I think I found a deep socket that just fit in the hole and
used that to compress the grease to force the bushing out.

There is a good description of how to remove a pilot bushing here
http://www.custompistols.com/cars/articles/pilot_bushing.htm
This method fills the cavity with grease and then uses a close fitting
rod inserted into the pilot bushing. Hit the rod with a hammer and the
compressed grease will push out the pilot bushing. I have used this
method successfully many times and it works best if the rod fits snugly
in the pilot bushing so that the grease does not escape between the rod
and the pilot bushing. If the pilot bushing is worn such that the hole
is no longer round this method will sometimes fail to work.

Has an interesting tool to do the job
I acquired a tool some time ago which threads into the pilot bushing,
there is a grease fitting on one end and once installed you hook up a
grease gun and fill the cavity with grease. The pilot bushing is pushed
out easily. I could not find this tool currently listed on the web.
