The trick is to put in a worn out pad or just the backing plate on side of
the caliper and a full thick pad or something to restrict the movement of
the other pad. Pump till the free side piston is almost all the way out.
Then force it back in and switch pads to loosen the other piston.

The method you're using causes the piston to tilt making it harder to
remove.

Subject: [alfa] Stuck caliper brake piston

For the rear brakes on a '77 Spider I did the old remove the pads, then
pump on the brake until the stuck pistons came out.

It worked fine for the inside piston, but then how do you get the other
one out? I don't see any way (now) to blow it out with compressed air. I
tried hammering it out by (barely) attaching vice grips to the smaller
diameter part that actually pushes on the brake pad, then hammering on
the vice grip.

It's out about half way. Both this piston, what I can see of it, and the
inside one were pristine though the bore was fairly rusty.

Any neat solutions out there short of calling APE?
