Ron, this won't help, but ten days (or so) after 9/11 I needed to fly to
Sacramento to pick up an Alfa Spider to drive back to Irwindale (So.Cal.).
As you can imagine things were pretty chaotic. I actually hunted down a
guard so he could check over my assortment of tools in an Igloo cooler.
I might be mistaken but believe they let me carry them on. As I recall
they put an official looking paper tape over it, so I could check it
with the flight attendant.
Little did they know at the time that shoes and such items as baby
bottles needed to be thoroughly checked out.
I don't fly often but have seen guys carrying gun cases when going
through the line.
Yeah, I'm sure they'll want you to check the tools in with your luggage
- then just hope you see them again.
