I've had one of these for 20+ years, it works well, fits most joints, and seems to take a beating.
http://tinyurl.com/yl9wdak I only use a pickle fork as a last resort only if i know I am replacing the joint anyway. They tend to do too much damage. Sometimes a good whack BFH in the right spot will pop the joint free (doesn't usually work on an Alfa) My favorite way to split joints (assuming you have a compressor in your shop) is to use an air hammer with a large blunt tip. A shot or two on the side or top the arm adjacent to the joint will usually pop the joint free. Happy holidays, merry christmas, and best wishes ...
