i've used the air hammer for certain application although there was one 164
right side drive shaft i couldn't get out of its middle housing with every
trick in the book.like i mentioned i give a serious slam on the mentioned arm
near the ball joint a couple times.its fun and usually loosens the ball
joint.its the same physics involved as your mentioned air hammer.just a little
more satisfying.(;>)

I've had one of these for 20+ years, it works well, fits most joints,
and seems to take a beating.

I only use a pickle fork as a last resort only if i know I am
replacing the joint anyway. They tend to do too much damage.

Sometimes a good whack BFH in the right spot will pop the joint free
(doesn't usually work on an Alfa)

My favorite way to split joints (assuming you have a compressor in
your shop) is to use an air hammer with a large blunt tip. A shot or
two on the side or top the arm adjacent to the joint will usually pop
the joint free.

Happy holidays, merry christmas, and best wishes ...
