All Alfa seat rails I have encountered are mild steel. That will weld
nicely.
Put a magnet on it if you have any questions. A weak magnetic pull would
indicate stainless steel, but I doubt that. No magnetic attraction at all
would indicate a not ferrous material like aluminum. Again, I doubt that will
be what you find.

Thanks for all the input so far. I have taken the seat out and posted a
picture of the fracture here. I have a local welder who primarily makes
go cart race cars and has a machine shop. I'll have him weld it and
I'm thinking add a flat piece along the top(bottom) to add strength.
That is, unless someone has some warnings about it, or the material
used in these rails?
