The local Alfa mechanic heats up the rear of the transmission and pushes
them out with an air hammer. Then he cleans up the area and heats it again to
install the new mount.
It is good to clean the grease from the area
around where you are heating to prevent a fire.

      The little torches that
use a replaceable bottle of propane are all you need. They are available at
Ace Hardward and probably at any home supply store. The torches are also
great for soldering copper to replumb your house (I hate plastic plumbing
hose). And they work pretty nicely for lighting pilot lights on furnaces hot
water heaters and for starting fires in the fireplace.

Ciao,
Russ Neely

Subject: [alfa] trans mount removal
The factory tool makes the job a doddle; it's a big pipe and small pipe,
basically, that pulls the old seal out and pulls the new one in. If you
don't
have that tool, you can make one with some welding and cutting
skills, or
people heat up the area around the mount and pound it out
with a big drift,
around the edges.
