My GTV-6 has had the hydraulic tensioner (sans the hydraulics)
installed since 2006 (per APE). No problems and I regularly rev' her
to 7200 RPMs!

be any worse than the stock hydraulic detensioner during a cold
start. If anything, you should have more belt tension during a

Fwiw, I thought your idea was a pretty good one, and I'll probably
give it a whirl myself at some point.
APE has also been recommending using the hydraulic detensioners in
this manner. i have one i got
from them with the intent of doing this on the milano, but it
currently has the mechanical detensioner
on it and the shorter stud, so i haven't tried to install the
hydraulic unit.
