Rheostat keeps shorting out, even ones I've replaced. (Once nearly started a fire, ignition wouldn't work for a minute or so afterward!).
I think newer ones are solid-state or digital (i.e., don't use wire looms). Does anyone know the specs of the rheostat in the steering column, controls the little light over the heater faceplate and the light in the blower switch and the light in the hazard switch? I would like to experiment and see if there are new solid-state rheostats, since this design is 26 years old. Or maybe another car has better-constructed ones. Thanks, much help appreciated. (the rheostat has a bunch of numbers on it none obviously relating to ohmage, amps, etc.) -Clay Princeton, NJ -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to
