It all depends on the insurance agency and/or company.

I had a stated value policy on my 308, which required an independent appraisal. Best thing to do is look in Hemmings for a licensed appraiser in your area. It will also help if you can supply ads and documentation showing what similar cars have sold for recently.

My 308 car recently became old enough that I could insure it through Hagerty. My recollection is that they do not require an appraisal as long the value you state is not too u reasonable for the car in question.

YMMV,

My Allstate insurance agent has told me that she can finally write stated value auto policies. I've wanted to put one on my GTV6 for some time now. But one curious caveat is that she says I have to prove the car is worth the stated value. She said that I will have to take it to someone of due stature, like a dealer, bodyshop or noted collector, and have them write a statement saying they think the car is worth X dollars.

I know some of you have stated value policies on your vehicles. Have you needed to do this with your cars and insurance companies?
