At the Alameda All Italian Car Day, one participant told me the choice of
14" high performance tires is getting seriously thin. I just called Yokohama
consumer affaires and found out that my 195/60 R14 86H tires are still being
made but are special order. I don't have a problem with that, but I asked
the guy if they still made the A008 in some weird size. They do...in 10" for
Minis! My experience so far is almost everyone who drives fast, recalls the
A008s as being one of their favorite tires ever! Personally, I'd much rather
have A008s than ES100s, but they don't make them. I think if enough of us
Alfa and Porsche people wrote or called the Yokohama marketing department, we
might make a difference.

Am I correct in my impression that the A008s were better loved than tires
now available? I wore out 4 or 5 sets on a Volvo 242 GT. They were sticky
enough I also wore out 4 or 5 sets of motor mounts! It's great to get those
slide characteristics and the better braking that goes along with it, along
with 50k miles!

What's the collective opinion out there among the drivers who enjoy driving
fast on twisty roads? Please pass this on to your other car buddies. The
Yoko number is 1-800-423-4544. Consumer affairs is ext. 2880, not sure about
marketing...
