If you can afford to spend some extra bucks then I strongly recommend a 123ignition distributor, an MSD 6AL and a Blaster or other low impedance coil. You will have a set up with a choice of advance curves, accurate curves that do not change with time, very few moving parts to wear or go sloppy, the option of opening up your plug gaps to .040" for big sparks, multiple spark firing a low rpms and a rev limiter. You get improved throttle response, better mpg if you choose an appropriate curve, and the power to beat plug fouling if you have an oil burning engine. I have had a couple of Shankle Marelliplex's and an RML. They are not in the same league as the 123/MSD combo.
