This may not be much help, but when my brake lights failed, it was the switch. If the lights were fine before and suddenly went out, and the fuse is okay, then the switch is the likely culprit. I don't recall whether the switch was NO or NC, but I THINK it is Normally Open. The manual's trouble shooting instructions would seem to indicate that. One possible test would be to short across the switch leads and see what happens. Good luck, Bob A. In a message dated 2/19/2011 3:53:09 P.M. Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes:
My parents just called to say the brake lights on their '95 164LS have stopped working. (The bulbs that are also used as turn signals still function in that capacity.) Are there wiring diagrams available for download anywhere? I talked my dad through measuring resistance across the switch, and apparently it's normally closed, and then breaks the circuit when the brake pedal is released. (Is that normal among modern cars?) So it seems like the switch works, but there's no voltage being applied to it. (The fuse is fine.) Is this a common problem?
