Bruce,
I have a feeling that I will be facing this soon so will be watching
others responses.
If the tank pipe is 1-15/16", I think mine will be reworked to 2-1/4"
to match the filler. 2-1/4" is a standard filler hose size for racing
fuel cells and is widely available.
I saw a tank at the Carlisle Import and Kit show a couple of years ago
that was reconditioned by the Gas Tank Renu company (as I recall) see
http://www.jblaa.com/gastank.htm. They told me they weld tanks and can
move or change filler pipes.
I also saw a GTV-6 a couple of years ago that had a completely different
cap. It was housed in a bright but not too gaudy plate that was
attached to the body with hex head cap screws. I had a brief
conversation with the driver who indicated that it was not his car. He
was knowledgeable to some extent though and explained that the cap was
changed so its spout (outlet) matched the gas tank. I wrote down the
make but can not find it. Something similar at Pagasus Racing
(pagasusracing.com) is part #FS AFC200B. They also carry a clear fuel
hose that is flexible in a 2" diameter. I have used it but not on an
Alfa. I know Goodyear makes 2" and probably Gates and Sheilds also.
Pricey. Also have to deal with at least some vent lines I would imagine.

Subject: [alfa] GTV-6 Gas filler pipe to tank neck connector
Just wondering if anyone has come up with a solution to the deterioration
of the rubber connector between the gas filler pipe and the gas tank neck on
the GTV-6?
Over time, the flexible connector develops cracks which allow gas to seep
into the trunk when the tank is nearly full.
I've checked with several suppliers, and I've been told that the part has
been discontinued. I have not been able to find a suitable replacement.
The main issue is that the two pipes are significantly different is OD. The
filler pipe is approximately 2 1/4: OD, and the gas tank neck is
approximately 1 15/16" OD. Contributing to the problem is the location of the
gas
tank neck which is placed on the upper side of the tank body. This keeps gas
in the neck until the tank is below half full. If the car sits on a slight
downhill slant to the left, gas sits in the rubber connector, and oozes
into the trunk.
BTW, by car is a 1985. Maybe other years are different.
Any suggestions for repairing the cracks?
TIA
