My parents just called to say the brake lights on their '95 164 LS have stopped working. (The bulbs that are also used as turn signals still function in that capacity.) Are there wiring diagrams available for download anywhere? I talked my dad through measuring resistance across the switch, and apparently it's normally closed, and then breaks the circuit when the brake pedal is released. (Is that normal among modern cars?) So it seems like the switch works, but there's no voltage being applied to it. (The fuse is fine.) Is this a common problem?
Thanks, Joe The brake lights once went out on our lamented 94 164 LS. I was surprised they went out on both sides at the same time. It turns out the culprit was a bulb had burned out in the 3rd brake light, and replacing that bulb miraculously fixed the outboard lights. I am no expert, but if that's the way I had wired it, I would not put it into a wiring diagram for all the world to see. Have one of your folks step on the brake while the other checks the 3rd light to see what it's doing. Good luck!
