>> From: Bruce Giller <[email protected]> Subject: [alfa] Muffler suggestions for GTV
My exhaust system is all stock and I've located a long crack in the front resonator (on the weld where the pipe enters the resonator at the front) and a smaller on on the middle muffler (same location as the resonator) on my '73 GTV. Lots of backfiring from the resonator on deceleration is the main problem and I'm sure that the cracks will not heal themselves...where are our Alfa repair nano-bots ?! << Backfiring is generally caused by the "butterflies" in the intake manifold not fully closing when de-accelerating. This can be because you don't fully take your foot off the gas pedal, the throttle cable does not have the prescribed slack, or binding linkage. The backfiring probably caused the cracks in the exhaust system. Fix the backfiring first. You can probably replace the front resonator with a straight pipe and not have too loud a system. But removing either of the others will cause a load system. Carl R. Davis 2823 S.
