Consider replacing, or at least checking, the oxygen sensor. The very high CO result is common for failing oxygen sensors. I've just replaced the one in my '88 Milano for the second time --- they seem to have a 10 year lifetime. A good source is RockAuto.com (Bosch sensor for the Milano was 58$). IAP and probably Centerline also have them.
