I plan to change valve springs on a 1750 engine without removing the head. I will be using compressed air to keep the valves shut during the procedure, but when it comes to this sort of work I want suspenders to go with my belt.
One thought I had was to put a rare-earth magnet on the end of the valve stem during this procedure as a back up so that if my air pressure goes away, the valve can't drop into the cylinder. However, I'm not sure that the valves are sufficiently magnetic for this to work, hence my question.
