Did you measure them with a cold engine? i.e. left overnight. Personally I'd leave them. Too large a clearance is better than not enough, it's just that you are not getting optimal valve opening. Doubtful you would ever know it though, unless it's a race car.
You could also try a different set of feelers. According to my documentation* the intake clearances should be around .19 and the exhaust should be around .21. EVERY intake clearance is within tolerance varying between .185 and .195. And EVERY exhaust clearance is outside of tolerance varying between .22 and .23. Do I need to go through massive shim gyrations? Or am I OK? - Eric Hambleton, Marietta, GA (probably one of the last people in the Digest) Current stable: 1976 Spider - 1991 164b - 1984 Coupe De Ville - 2009 RX8 R3 * The owners manual from a 1974 GTV. Find me a car nowadays which puts VALVE CLEARANCES in the owners manual!
