An earlier posting stated:

"I think there is even someone running for President
who's daddy ruined Studebaker (remember the Avanti!) yet loves to
crow about his business acumen and family legacy."

I take exception to the above comment only from the standpoint of historical
correctness as opposed to any political association.

The person referred to as the father of one of the Presidential candidates was
not the head of Studebaker as claimed.

Instead he started with Nash-Kelvinator in 1948. After the merger of N-K and
Hudson in 1954 he served as president of the newly formed American Motors until
1962. During the early 60's Rambler became America's third most popular car.

As a further comment regarding what is an Alfa, etc.

I grew tired of waiting for a semi affordable Alfa badged car to once again be
available in the U.S. and bought Fiat 500 Sport Prima Edizione #24 which was
sitting on the local dealer's lot at the beginning of last May. Red with the
black roof/sunroof and black 500 side stripe to break up the visual height of
the car.

In short, the car is an absolute blast to drive plus it gets almost as many
positive comments as the Giulia Spider or GTV6!! With 9000 mi now on the odo,
as long as one packs light, it has become my drive of choice for not only city
driving but also for long distance drives on and off freeways. If I need more
space, I have the choice of a GTV6 with a Milano Verde driveline or a '98
Subaru 2.5RS with an upgraded '02 WRX motor with '05 STi drive line, brakes,
and suspension.

While the 500 doesn't compare to the pre-Fiat Alfa's as far as pure character,
it does very well indeed as to styling in a small practical package - the
majority of comments back that up, and does exceptionally well when driven with
vigor on the fantastic back country paved roads of western Wisconsin's coulee
country!!
