Scott, I missed your reply and will definitely check the temp sensor connection. Your observations reminded me of my experiences with 116 V6 L-Jet cars...I'd forgotten the importance of temp sensors.
The engine motion is unlikely to travel upstream to the ECU due to the major improvements in wiring enacted by A/R and FIAT on these cars. This is not to say that re-seating that massive connector which has likely been untouched for 20 years and has sat through all manner of temperature and humidity changes isn't a good idea. Your suggestions will go on my to-do list for next weekend.
