I have read this as well. For some reason these 2.0L motors tend to carbon-up, 
over-pressurizing the sump. So much so that cases have been reported where the 
oil filter had virtually exploded!

One thought I had is to run Seafoam through the sump on your next oil change. 
This may help free up any carbon deposits decreaseing pressure in the sump. 
This is just an idea keep in mind, but I can't imagine a clogged oil air 
seperator would make a oil filter explode or oil cap to leak for that matter. I 
think it may be just an intrinsic design flaw of the motor, or just a case of 
using old or bad gas.
