I know the query was about a Spider, and I've never had one of those, but on our Alfetta GT the fumes used to come in as soon as the window was wound down even a sixteenth of an inch, and I asked about it on the Digest, and everyone said they'd be getting sucked in from the tailpipe area through some gap somewhere at the back of the car, and not coming in from the engine at the front. Anyway, as per Digest advice, I looked for leaks in the hatch glass sealing, in the rubber bungs in the boot floor, around the tail light gaskets, the number plate mounting holes, and all that sort of thing, and it turned out to be inadequate sealing by the hatch rubber strip when the hatch was closed. Boy were we glad to solve that - an Alfetta GT gets mighty hot on a long summer trip if you have to keep the windows sealed up tight. Thanks Richard and Digesters!
