Hi Amanda,
If you pull the coil wire out of the center of the distributor cap, hold
it near the engine block and are getting no fire out of it, probably one or
both of the pickups on the bell housing is bad. The connectors are under the
washer bottle on the passenger fire wall. Disconnect and check them one at a
time then plug them back in, don't get them mixed up!! With a digital ohm
meter you should read about 1,000 ohms between the middle pin and one end pin
and an open circuit between the middle and the other pin. The actual reading
doesn't seem to be all that critical, as long as you read somewhere around the
1K ohms, it is good and if you read nothing between any pins, it is bad and
the pickup needs to be changed. These are standard Bosch pickups and should
be available at most parts houses but you might have to pull the old one out
and get the part number off it.
