there is no  problem. But, if I leave it for an extended time, it fires up

It sounds to me like you've got at least one leaking fuel injector. When the car sits hot, with the system pressurized, the injector(s) slowly drip, flooding the engine. If you shut it off and then start it a short time later, they haven't dripped too much and the engine starts up well. If you leave it long enough, the excess fuel evaporates. Shut it down and wait the right amount of time and el-flood-o. The only cure is to replace the leaking injectors. If you have the time, try pulling the plugs and see if one or more is particularly dark or even black. That's a good indication.
