Thanks Carl, if it was my query you're replying to. Righto, I've got plenty of common 3-point retracting belts from other cars stacked away in the parts-basement, so I'll try one of those in the GTV. By the way when you refer to "the original Alfa system with two spring loaded windups", that's not the original system as in our Euro GTV. These cars came with completely non-windup belts - you know, the sort that drops out all over the door sill or gets tangled round the handbrake when you take 'em off.

Almost any 3-point belt with single spring loaded windup is going to work.
It will probably be safer than the original Alfa system with two spring
loaded windups.  People looking at your car would really have to know GTV's
well to spot the change.
I forget from whom I bought my 74 GTV replacements.   I remember they turned
out to be a German manufacturer.  What makes it easy is that the USA first
demanded them and set the spec for the installation bolts ... they are
inch-threads not millimeters.  Apparently the world adapted that standard.
