Decently written article--but the dude danced around the underlying
problem ~~
Folks who want to buy an Alfa--want AN _ALFA_---Not a Fiat which has
been transmogrified by Khrysler, equipped with a Fiat engine topped off
with a custom cylinder head (which was most likely designed by a German
engineer who Scotty sent to Dee-troit via the transporter)!!
Not any more than they wanted to buy Oldsmolets (is that a rotten
Mexican dish ??), Chevmobiles, Poncholets, or Cheviacs in the '80's !!!
And we all know what has already happened to the Olds and Pontiac brands !!
The only really astounding thing here is that the GMC brand has survived
this long after it became nothing more than a CheveMC (or is that a
GMolet) in the mid- sixties !!
Alfa buyers have always tended to be too technically savvy to allow
themselves to be swayed by the usual 'badge engineering' malarkey
(thanks, Joe) that spews out of the marketing mavens at the major auto
mfgrs. !!
The ONLY way Alfa will survive is if FixItAgainTony's CEO figures this
out, boots the bean counters and marketeers out of the way, and then
assembles a team of good, capable engineers loose to design a real
ALFA--and refuses to let them dip into (OR BE TOLD TO DIP INTO !!) the
parts bins at Fiat OR Khrysler !! It may well take an unpleasant visit
to him from Vittorio Jano's ghost to make this happen !!
