Any lasting repair will almost certainly need to have the top removed from the car (then reinstalled obviously). Thus it will require all the work of a new top except of course for the cost of the new top. I'd have to thoroughly weigh the cost of a new window sewn into your old top vs the cost of a new top. I suspect the new top will be the winner...
