Have you looked at a 164 manual (entirely different car, I know) to see whether the instructions for R&R of the steering rack in that car are applicable at all to the Milano? I know I've read lots of discussion of how miserable it is to remove the 164 rack with the engine in the car. The instructions in the manual made it so easy for me that, were I more prone to hyperbole, I might even say I look forward to doing it again. But I'm not. The point is that sometimes even a well-informed group can pass around misconceptions. I'll check the things I have at home (Milano manual, 164 manual, Milano) for any more info.
