Hi guys, its been years since I have posted.
I removed three Milano racks, One, with the engine out and it was v. easy. But I had the engine out for other reasons. Another time, the old traditional painful way. Took a entire day of cussing and fussing, dirty as hell, and then not much later, that rack started leaking. I drove the Verde without any power assist for a time, because I dreaded removing the rack. So, finally started the job again, removed the steering rack bolts, shaft connection, hydraullic lines, etc....and then, started looking underneath the car as to why it was so difficult, as the rack would slide laterally a bit and then bump into something.....I located a small metal tab, maybe holding the oil line to the rack, and bent it out of the way, then, standing alongside the left fender, I reached in, rotated the entire rack 90 degrees and slide it straight out, as easy as anything....I was shocked. So, I slide it back in, rotated it back 90 degrees to its correct placement, and did it all again, rotated the rack, and pulled it straight out.....it was all of a sudden, obvious, that this is the way the factory intended the job to be, but I don't think they ever told anyone..... Damn Italian communist line workers...... Anyway, there is no need to endure hours of misery removing the Milano steering rack.... enjoy, Jay -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected]
