Bruce,

When I acquired my '63 Volvo 1800S, it would instantly pop any fuse placed into
one of the two (yes, two) main fuse slots for non-headlight accessories. I
ultimately had to dismount the interior light fixtures as part of my
search&destroy operation. I found the hot wire to one of the two rear seat
lamp fixtures was clamped underneath the metal body of the fixture, and it had
bitten through the insulation to provide a hot-to-ground short. I don't know
how long the P.O. had tolerated that, and it took me a while to debug. Your
battery drain problem post-head-gasket work sounds like it could well be a
wiring harness issue precipitated by a stray screwdriver or mis-clamped
fitting. You can possibly pull the wires from behind the fuse block to
separate the loads and identify w/o having to get to each of the loads at the
point of use. In fact, if it's the harness that's impaired, you won't have any
joy from measuring at the load, as that wouldn't be the problem.

Good luck with this. And quoting your loads in "volts" of drain only confuses
the matter. I'm assuming you mean "Amps" and 8 amps is quite a static load.
Sort of like a 100W light bulb on a 12V system. The problem child ought to be
visible, smoky, hot, or at least smelly.
