Having done many of these, Beatle, 'tis the normal way. Lift the rear high and pull the motor from the front, top. Reverse the procedure to install the engine. It is amazingly easy. I do, however, disconnect the driveshaft from the trans. Now, if I could only find an easy way to pull GTV6 motors.

In fact, he said they just put the rear of the car on a lift, picked it up, pulled the engine and then let it back down. If you pull engine, transmission and the front half of the drive shaft as a unit it makes it a lot easier than disassembling everything in the car.
