Its very unusual to get a faulty new pump. You have no doubt checked to see
that it is the new pump that's leaking past the bearing seal and not a seepage
past the gasket at the top of the pump body that's letting water get onto the
back of the pulley. If the pump is leaking send it back. Don't stuff around
with coolant additives etc.B
By the way its easy to crack the carbon seal of the bearing by putting side
force on the pulley so care is needed when changing belts or fan.

Subject: [alfa] 1750 waterpump

(1750 engine in 1971 2000 spider)

replacement 10 year old pump bearing went (major bearing noise and
wobble of pump shaft - pulley) and made a nice spray flinging off the pulley

nice new made in italy pump for "cheap" from IAP - needed to wait to get
(difficult) one 45mm M6 stud because the boss between heater and recirc
spigots was not faced to 35mm

so after cleaning engine and touching up detail, careful priming etc...

surprise - new pump from get-go is also flinging nice spray - admittedly
it is a higher quality "finer" dispersion, however - very depressing

any ideas?
