Hi Dan:

My '92 164L has begun to make a growling noise during cornering. It only happens when accelerating, not while coasting. It only happens when going forward.

My first reaction is that it's not the steering rack, engine mounts or a CV joint. To me, with the information you provided, I'd lean toward a wheel bearing.

Where is the noise coming from? Does it get louder when you turn a particular direction? Quieter when you turn the other way? Does it make the noise under braking if you turn the wheel far enough? Do you hear any noise when the car is sitting still and you turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock?
