Replace them with the nylon rack and pinion type designed for custom hot rods.
These will require a bit of reengineering to fit the mechanisms, but as they
are much more compact (and much simpler and reliable) than the Italian
cable-winding mechanisms, it shouldnt be difficult. They were designed to add
power windows to cars like 32 Ford coupes with their ultra-thin doors, so
fitting them to almost any Alfa should be easy. Hope this helps.
