John and all,
That cable needs to be wound around the drum so the drum is completely
full. As the motor runs, cable comes out on one side and in on the other.
Once you get the cable wound around the drum, the next trick is securing it
until you get the mechanism back in the car.
To see how the cables are routed, pull the other door panel. You have a
mirror image over there. That is unless you pulled both window regulators.
In that case, find a friend.
I even got brave and restrung one of those regulators one time with all
new cable. It doesn't hurt to have the cable a little too long. Just take
the slack out by putting a loop in it where it attaches to the window then
make the final tension adjustment with the moveable roller.
Hope this helps,

Subject: [alfa] Spider Power Window Cable
Alfisti:
I had an occasion to remove the power window motor, regulator and its
associated cable from the right hand door of my '82 Spider. In doing so,
however, I have managed to tangle the cable and I am having an impossible
time
trying to rewind it properly and rescue it. The cable is in good condition,
that is it is not frayed and I do not see a major kink in it. I have tried
wrapping the cable once around the drum, filling in the tracks and then
covering the drum and cable with a finger but there is too much cable left
over, that is there seems to several more wraps left in the cable at the far
end of the drum before it comes out in a loop for the windows.
Is there a secret to re-winding these cables? Should I just give in and buy a
new one? Does anybody have any experience with the newer style window
regulators that both Centerline and Vick sells?
