Colin, The battery is very critical to Spica function as the cold start solenoid draws significant current during the engagement of the starter. Spica owners charge a known good battery fully before attempting a restart after a long hiatus or a rebuild. You're correct about the reliability of the Spica system. Once set up they are reliable starters in the most difficult climate conditions.
