Like Bob A. says, the gauge and senders are specific. But, you can use
one with the other. The big problem is they read backwards and aren't very
accurate. But unless you are racing it, you only need to know if you have oil
pressure or not. I ran my Duetto like that for years. I have since changed
senders and the new one is really inaccurate but it reads.
With power on, if you remove the wire from the sender the gauge should go
full scale in one direction. Ground the wire to the engine and it should go
full scale the other direction. That will confirm that the gauge is working.
If you haven't done it already, spin the engine with the sparkplugs out
until you have oil pressure. Either use an ohm meter at the sender or connect
the gauge wire. Either way, make sure you have oil pressure before you fire it
off.
The best way to check oil pressure is with a mechanical direct reading
gauge with a hose coming from the engine.

Gentle Alfisti,
Am I to understand that the oil pressure sending unit is specific to the gauge
manufacturer, be they Jaeger or Veglia? My 66 GT indicates the oil pressure
pegged to the right with no signal power applied.
Can I use a voltmeter to monitor oil pressure on a first-start?
