I have two suggestions re modelle's post on this subject. First, you could always replace the switch. I have had poor luck with the English switch provided by some of our suppliers. I have had better luck with the made in Italy Facet brand switch.
Second, run the brake lights from a relay using the switch output as the source of relay trigger current. If anyone wants a wiring diagram of this, send me a note and I'll provide one.
