bColin,

Typically, SPICA fuel lines have two filters: 1) the one between the fuel
tank and the pump (which catches 99% of the crap out of the tank and can
clog up quickly with a rusty tank) and 2) the canister filter in the engine
compartment.

Was the third filter a 'sock' ? That would go on to the end of the in-tank
pump inside the tank.

As to the replacing the filters, with the tank filter you really need to
clamp off the fuel line from the tank to the filter otherwise you'll have
gas running all down your arm as you try to plug the linr whilst fitting
the new filter. The canister filter housing makes a mess too but it just
drips down inside the engine compartment as you try to lift it up&out. I
always end up having to tilt the canister to extract it from underneath all
the fuel lines. The canister takes only one filter element.
