Not anymore at the moment.
But, it has happened before. The need for it may come again. I would
prepare for this and allow an override to be added to a package so the
function does not delete anything when it is called.
If it's developed now, you're all set for the future. It shouldn't be
hard to do so. You can go as far as create a file somewhere and if it
exists, don't delete the dir.
The file would have to be called something like dontdelete-packagedir.
