Thanks for the info Greg.. now I can spend a week with the mother-in-law and not think about it.

_Unfortunately_ the latest HLFS will not build. There is some quirky glibc error and unfortunately I have run out of time.

This is the tail end of the glibc log.

i686-tools-linux-gnu-gcc ../sysdeps/wordsize-32/divdi3.c -c -std=gnu99 -O2 -Wall -Winline -Wstrict-prototypes -Wwrite-strings -g -mpreferred-stack-boundary=4 -fPIC

glibc-2.3.6 requires patching to build with binutils-2.17:

http://sources.redhat.com/ml/glibc-cvs/2005-q4/msg00564.html
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/glibc-cvs/2005-q4/msg00565.html
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/libc-alpha/2005-11/msg00033.html

I made the simple patch for DIY but never uploaded it because I have
decided not to support the combo of glibc-2.3.6 and binutils-2.17
