Yeah I started looking at things like this for the LS-14. Yes all
Olympus recorders have a mike jack. Do you have some link to this? Does
this supply Phantum power? It must if you said you used AKG mikes.

Hosa makes a great dual XLR to eighth inch mini stereo plug cable about
ten feet long which works great with a pair of AKG C1000 condensers and a
Plextalk 2. I am sure it would work well with the Olympus as well if it has
an external mic input.

Only my 2 cents worth.
A good general purpose recorder it seems though for the money I think I'd
rather purchase an Olympus LS-P4 which seems to sell for around the same
amount of money.
For those who have not seen an Olympus LS-P4 the buttons are very well laid
out and tactile marks are used for quick identification of function keys.
I'm not worried that recorders at this price level don't have XLR
connectivity as we're not talking professional studio recorders here anyway
and the inclusion of XLR connectors usually make for a larger recorder
because of the size of the actual connectors themselves.

That would be great info to have but I'm afraid you might have to convince
Sir Neal to buy yet another recorder. Good luck. (lol)

I'm on the site right now. That's how I found out it can do 48 KHZ 24
bits. I do wander though how the recordings from it sound. All the stuff
Neal gets into. What's the floor noise level. The frequency responce of the
mikes, and if it does have a jacks what's the pre amp noise level.

Wow, this is the first I've heard of this recorder. It definitely looks
very int interesting especially as a great note taker. Thanks for mentioning
it. I downloaded the manual and listened to some of the YouTube videos
available on their site. It's a bit expensive but not so bad when you
consider that I paid over $300 for my DM4.

Does anybody here have any experience with the Eltrinex digital
recorder? I don't believe it can record at the higher sampling rates
that some here want, but people who have used it seem to be happy with
it and it seems to have complete accessibility even if the price is
high for its recording features. You can read about it at

Intresting as mine never had any issues. But yes the p4 sounds nicer as
it have metal and they brought back the random for the music player. I will
get the zoom h1n for now and then consider lsp4.

Yep thanks and I did have a DM7 for a little while, worst ever
Olympus recorder I owned voice TTS or no Voice Tts,.
The recorder felt cheap and the day I got the recorder bits started
breaking off.
In the end I was perfectly happy to throw the recorder away and go
back to the DM4.
Now the Olympus LS-P4 is here there's no going back foo a DM4 for me,
just too many advantages to be had with the DM4.

Of corse olympus continued the work after the dm4, they done the dm7
wich have improvements there. Example, on dm4 you had to switch a
setting on wich allow file names to be spoken, but with dm7 there is
no such thing, it just works. It read everything even the password
for wifi.

Hi Dane.
I will report back tomorrow but my understanding is that the ls-p1
is the
ls-p2 without the bluetooth feature.
The manual seems to indicate that voice guidance is there but I
will confirm tomorrow.
Believe me if it doesn't its going back right away grin!

I hope I'm wrong, I think the LS-P1 is one of Those that don't
have speech and not all Olympus recorders do.
As I understand it the LS-P1 is the model down from the LS-p2 and
lacks some of the functionality of the P2 including Voice
Guidance.
As per your question regarding TTS? I'll need some help on this
but to my knowledge the DM4 was one of the few Olympus recorders
to have a fully fledged TTS built-in so that's why that
particular model was able to handle so much more in the form of
Daisy books and so on.
It is a pity that Olympus never continued on with the good work
of the
DM4 to finish the job but there we are.

Hi listers,
Eagerly awaiting the arrival tomorrow of my ls-p1 recorder and
had one question.
Does the ls-p series actually contain a text to speech
synthesizer as I am told the olympus dm-4 does?
I ask because I would like to give names to the folders on the
recorder and possibly create new ones and have their names
spoken.
Thanks in advance.
