Hey there J: Yeah...great idea; don't know why I never think about that "run dialog" thing; gets ya there lots quicker! Oh well...maybe I'll remember it the next time (which hopefully it'll be a long, long time before there's one of them, but maybe I'll remember to use that Run Dialog thing! Thanks, Tom KaufmanM

Sounds like you got it, but for future reference, if you ever want to just open one of your drives, the way I like to do it is to just open the run dialogue with windows key + r, then type the drive letter with the colon. So for your system drive you would type c: And there you are. Right in the root directory of the drive. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman via groups.io Sent: November 24, 2025 2:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [all-audio] The Plot TThickenes: Found The Lost File But... Could you give me the directions for that method you said before? I think the problem might be that I don't know how to access how to get to those letters...you know like drive c, drive d and so forth! Whatever I've been doing here of late, I still cannot find that file, so it might be (for whatever reason) gone this time! I know I've not deleted it, so either MP3 Direct Cut or maybe Windows is up to doing things it shouldn't be doing as I don't seem to be missing anything else! Am just at my wit's end here! Hey. Search the drive using the method I suggested earlier. If it doesn't work, you could try the search everything utility that a lot of people like to use. It's good indeed but windows search usually does the trick. Just open the drive, the external I guess, press f3, type in as much of the filename as you can (I think you can use wildcards like * and ? to fill in missing characters if you're not sure) and wait for the list to come up. You could check your c: drive in the same way too, just to be sure. If you found the file again earlier today/after the mishap with the save, then it's there somewhere. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman via groups.io Sent: November 24, 2025 2:24 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [all-audio] The Plot TThickenes: Found The Lost File But... But then, as far as I know, everything else I've got on the drive is still there, so I am Amith as to what is going on! I feel fairly certain that that file has not been deleted (unless it (after I found it) it got deleted, but I didn't do it; I _did not_ touch that delete key, so I don't know what's happening and I now cannot find that file where I found it before, unless I'm not going to the same place where I found it before! So are you suggesting that the place where I'm saving it is "not a safe place?" I don't know where else I should save it; where I'm saving it is not on the computer; is on an external hard drive, unless that has gone bad somehow! If you find it again, copy it somewhere else, that you know you can easily get to. I don't know if something is going on with direct cut, but it doesn't seem likely. People use that programme and nobody has reported it mysteriously trashing files. And I imagine like most programmes, it doesn't actually do anything with the file itself until you elect to save your changes. I could be wrong as I know it's not a standard digital audio editor, but that's how most stuff works. So when you finish your operation with the programme you either save it under the same name save it under a different name or in a different location, or don't save it at all, in which case, nothing isultimately done. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman via groups.io Sent: November 24, 2025 2:10 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [all-audio] The Plot TThickenes: Found The Lost File But... And if I happen to find that file again, what should I do to assure that this time, the file stays where it's supposed to live and can I make the edit in MP3 Direct Cut I want to edit? Might it be that there's a problem going on with MP3 Direct Cut? I _want_ _this_ _file!" Okay folks, I don't know what is happening! I promise you that I'm not deleting this file; I had gone into the external fille; went into My Music; then "Special Programs; from there, to ACB Community Karaoke (where the file had been placed; found it and was able to get it into MP3 Direct Cut; even was able to edit it, so I thought I was home free, so I then closed out everything and went back into my shortcut for the My Music folder (which actually is on my external drive) went through the usual steps to get to my ACB Community Karaoke folder and looked for the file I wanted.it's gone again! I don't know what to do next! Any ideas anyone? Tom Kaufman -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
