------- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Dec 4 08:13:52 -0800
2005 -------
I have downloaded both files attached to issue 41588 to test whether the problem
described here (issue 58677) also occured with me. In both files I changed the
character and the paragraph formatting, after which I tried to save the file
using CTRL+S or "File/Save". While trying to save "testtemplate.dot" the window
for "Save As" (!) appeared when I tried using either CTRL+S or "File/Save". When
I wanted to save the file under the initial name an error message appeared,
saying:

Error saving the document <document name>:
General error.
General input/output error.
OK-button

I wrote in the original error description that an error number appeared, but it
did not. This is due to me, not to the program! As with issue 41588 I was able
to dismiss the error and open and edit the file afterwards.
However, I performed the same steps with "Normal Template.ott", but that worked
fine.

Hold on, it gets weirder and more complicated:
I copied the error description of issue 41588 from the OOo-website and created
an OOo Writer text document, which I saved under the name "Issue41588" with the
file extension .odt. That file was saved, but as later appeared without the file
extension. When I tried to save this file in the Word 97/2000/XP-format I could
not and the following error message appeared:

Error saving the document Issue41588:
Write Error.
The file could not be written.
OK-button

Notice that the file extension is missing in the name. Oddily enough, OpenOffice
save the file under the name "Issue41588_0.odt". I then tried to save the file
in the Word 6.0-format, but again I could not and yet another error message
appeared:

<file location>Issue41588 already exists.
Do you want to replace it?
Yes-button No-button

Notice that the file extension is still missing in the name. I pressed the
"Yes"-button and another error message appeared, saying:

Error saving the document Issue41588:
Access to <file location>Issue41588 was denied.
OK-button

Notice that the file extension is still missing in the name. I noticed that the
file "Issue41588_0.odt" disappeared and a new file named "Issue415880" appeared
without a file extension.
I then tried to save the file in the Word 95-format, which also did not work
out, because the following error message appeared:

Error saving the document Issue41588:
Write Error.
The file could not be written.
OK-button

The weirdest thing was that the file Issue41588 was changed, because I noticed
the time of saving had changed!
I closed the file and tried to open the files "Issue41588" and "Issue415880" but
in both cases the following error message appeared:

Read-Error.
Error reading file.
OK-button

I was unable to open either one of these files. I have attached both files.
I hope this lengthy description is useful to you. BTW, my computer has a genuine
Intel Pentium4-processor, operating at 1600 MHz.
