If you go to www.duden.de and look vor Cosinus and Cotangans both entries are found (e.g. "Co|si|nus vgl. →Kosinus") that means that both words are actually allowed as well, only that for the description you should look up under the other writing style. And if you use www.langenscheidt.de both entries are known as well and already have a description available without looking at the other writing. And because of the meaning of the first three letters in Kotangens I would always prefer the writing with C instead of K.
