I think that I got now what do you meant.
But I can't delete the merged cells like you said in your first comment: using
"Shift cell left" give me the message "Deleting in merged ranges not possible.".
I can see a refresh problem following these steps:
1. Merge A1:A5 cells
2. Mark the merged cells
3. Edit > Delete Cells > Delete entire row(s) or Delete entire column(s)
(or use the context menu)
4. Edit > Undo (or Ctrl+Z)
5. The entire row or column got selected.
This is what do you meant lingletcl ?
