User mistake!
@oohelperd26603, this works as designed and as in all other applications,
because it is the only logical way how that can be handled.
If you want to have your writer file in an other directory, you must open the
writer file in OOo and save it in the new directory - so OOo will adapt the
relative hyperlinks to the images, and the images will remain visible.
