I cannot reproduce with my versions of Goudy Old Style (as shipped with Corel
Draw 6)
Here I can use both fonts.

OOo only displays one entry for the font (as expected), but when I select the
italic style, It uses the dedicated italic font (and doesn't only "apply an
angle" to the roman font)

While I admit that my fonts are not the same as yours (mine ar "BT", yours are
only "T" - whatever that means) - this shows that there is not a general problem
of OOo not being able to use dedicated styles of a given font.

To further get to the root cause, what is the output of "fc-list |grep -i goudy"
on your system?

And maybe you could attach the pspfontcache OOo creates
(~/.openoffice.org2/user/psprint/pspfontcache)
