ja->stoughto: which build do you use ? The build within Fedora or the build
provided via OpenOffice.org download site ? Perhaps there's a known problem
within the Fedora build...

Using the spadmin tool adding private fonts to a user installation is quite easy
and it works like a charm (tested with 2.0.4rc2). Maybe you forgot to select the
fonts you'd like to include within the "Add Fonts" dialog within spadmin.
OpenOffice.org looks for system fonts and it looks for fonts that have been
added using spadmin. If you have two fonts using the same name then first comes
first serves (so you may have a look at the order of the font configuration of
your X server and/or of your font server. If you add a 'private' font into the
user configuration using spadmin then remember that this fontpath is added to
the end of the X fontpath. Resolving issue as worksforme. I leave this issue
open. Perhaps Caolán (cmc) knows about a known issue within Fedora (added to cc
list). If CMC cannot give a hint then this issue can be closed.
